Figures from the Department for Work and Pensions report that the employment rate in Wales is up.
They reveal that employment stands at 71.8 per cent – up 0.5 per centage points on the quarter and up 2.9 per centage points on the year, with 1.478 million people in employment.
Employers across south east Wales are being urged by the DWP to take advantage of a wide range of recruitment support available through jobcentres.
Lynda Ormerod, senior employer and partnership manager, said: “Our jobcentres are open for recruitment events tailored to individual employers, and we regularly host jobs fairs that bring multiple businesses together under one roof.”
Several job fairs are planned for September and October across the region including: Blackwood Jobcentre (September 10), St Marys Priory Abergavenny (September 11), Barry Library (September 17), Ebbw Vale Jobcentre (September 24), and Caldicot Choir Hall (September 25).
Ms Ormerod said: “If you are an employer and need support to fill your vacancies, please contact your local jobcentre. We can also organise work academies and boot camps to help prepare candidates for your roles.
”For jobseekers, the DWP is offering opportunities to build lifelong skills through pre-employment training and voluntary work experience.
“The programmes provide valuable hands-on experience and help develop essential transferable skills.
“They can be a stepping stone to a new career path. Attending a jobs fair is a great way for jobseekers to meet employers face-to-face, learn about live vacancies, and discover the full range of support available through their local jobcentre”.
Minister for employment Alison McGovern said: “These figures show real progress with economic inactivity down, and 384,000 jobs added to the economy since last summer, putting more money in people’s pockets.
“We are determined to see unemployment fall that’s why we’re focused on getting people into good jobs by joining up work, health and skills support and transforming jobcentres to focus on genuine support not ticking boxes.”
